Congratulations to Zach Thoma, PE, project manager at Moore Engineering in Bemidji, for being named the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers’ (MnSPE) Young Engineer of the Year for 2025!
Zach received this prestigious honor during the 2025 MnSPE Annual Meeting, where MnSPE Past President David Fautsch, PE, presented the award.
Zach’s leadership roles in MnSPE inclue serving on the Young Engineers Committee and actively participating in Lake Agassiz Chapter MATHCOUNTS events, where he inspires future engineers.
At Moore Engineering, Zach manages projects across Water Resources and Civil/Municipal departments, leveraging his expertise to deliver innovative solutions. His portfolio spans municipal, transportation, site design, stormwater, and drainage projects, among others.
Currently, Zach serves as the City Engineer for the communities of Hackensack, Akeley, Erskine, Grygla, and Waubun. He plays a critical role in collaborating with these communities on funding, planning, design, and management of various important projects. His contributions include water and sewer replacements, park improvements, bonding allocations, and ADA compliance upgrades.
Additionally, Zach has successfully led projects for Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the City of Bemidji, the City of Hallock, and has been instrumental in completing lead service line inventory projects for the Minnesota Department of Health.
Zach’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and service exemplifies what it means to be a leader in the engineering field. His work has made a lasting impact not only on the communities he serves but also on the broader engineering profession.
