Advocating for our license and our profession
As a licensed professional engineer, you are constantly working to keep Minnesotans safe; while you’re working, MnSPE is working too.
We work to keep your license safe from outside groups trying to abolish your license and weaken the work you do to keep Minnesotans safe. on the road and in their homes and workplaces.
MnSPE advocates for you, your work and your license at the State Capitol and thanks to our partnership with NSPE, we advocate for you in Washington, D. C., too.
Here’s how we advocate for you and your work
- We advise and work with legislators and key legislative committees throughout the year –not just when the legislature is in Session.
- We are a resource to legislators during the development of State Bonding Bills.
- We monitor the work of groups that oppose our licensure system, we coordinate this work with other state PE societies – and we defend our licenses – in public and behind the scenes.
- We make sure that PEs have opportunities to talk with and educate legislative leaders about their work. This is especially important when legislators want to build and improve the highways in their districts!
Here’s how you can strengthen our advocacy work
- Participate when MnSPE holds a lobby day at the Capitol.
- Call and introduce yourself to your state senator and state representative– tell them you are a licensed professional engineer and how your work helps keep Minnesotans safe.
- Join our Legislative Committee and work with us to make sure that key legislators know where we stand on important issues.
- We hold lobby days when PEs fan out across the Capitol to meet with key legislators.
- We work with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, GeoScience and Interior Design on issues that affect PE licensure and license renewal.
