MnSPE President David Fautsch welcomed competitors, their families and their coaches to the March 9 MATHCOUNTS Countdown Round. MnSPE brought MATHCOUNTS to Minnesota over 40 years go and continues to host and sponsor the statewide math enrichment program for middle-schoolers.

In addition to its work on the annual MATHCOUNTS State Competition, MnSPE also coordinates 12 regional or Chapter Competitions. Top scorers from the Chapter Competitions advance to the State event.

Fautsch thanked the 60 plus MnSPE members who volunteered at the state competition, working at the registration desk, the Competition banquet, the Engineering Activity, and proctoring in exam rooms and scoring the paper and pencil tests..

After thanking MATHCOUNTS volunteers, Fautsch said, “Engineers like me volunteer for MATHCOUNTS because we love math and we know that isn’t always a popular thing in middle school. So we volunteer to encourage you to continue making math count as you move on to high school and college.”

Fautsch then thanked MATHCOUNTS sponsors adding that, “most of our sponsors are engineering firms who look forward to seeing today’s mathletes applying for tomorrow’s internships and jobs. They need your skills and your passion for solving problems!”He also thanked MATHCOUNTS Chapter Coordinators, State Committee members and coaches who team up each year for MATHCOUNTS

2024 MATHCOUNTS Super Coaches Recognized during State Competition

Three MATHCOUNTS coaches who have remarkable records for bringing teams to the State Competition were recognized during the event. Congratulations to:

  • Coach Margaret Schlukebier for bringing teams from Valley View Middle School in Edina to state for 15 years
  • Coach Rick Eidsness for bringing teams from Moorhead’s Horizon Middle School to state for ten years!
  • Coach James Carlovsky, St Paul Academy/Summit School for bringing teams to State for five years!
