Congratulations to MnSPE Board Member Brittany Jaramillo, PE, for earning the 2024 MFESTS Young Engineer of the Year Award! This award highlights Brittany’s incredible achievements in the engineering field and recognizes her as a leader and role model in Minnesota’s STEM community.
The Young Engineer of the Year Award is one of the highest honors awarded by the Minnesota Federation of Engineering, Science, and Technology Societies (MFESTS).
This recognition is reserved for engineers who are 35 years or younger and who demonstrate exceptional achievements in a variety of areas, including:
- Educational and collegiate accomplishments
- Professional society involvement
- Civic and humanitarian contributions
- Continuing professional development
- Overall engineering contributions and professional milestones
MFESTS, an umbrella organization of 15 engineering-related societies and STEM-focused groups, represents over 6,000 individuals dedicated to advancing STEM fields across Minnesota. Each year, MFESTS honors individuals with awards in four distinct categories:
- Young Engineer of the Year Award
- Charles W. Britzius Distinguished Engineer Award
- Young Science and Technology Professional of the Year
- Richard S. Alberg Distinguished Science and Technology Professional Award
Meet Brittany Jaramillo, 2024 Award Recipient
Saint Louis Park, MN resident Jaramillo holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saint Thomas, Saint Paul, MN.
She spent the first 11 years of her career at Michaud Cooley Erickson (MCE) where she was part of the aviation sector. In her role at MCE, Brittany oversaw the aviation sector, including a group of 40 engineers and designers. Her projects at MSP airport have ranged from $50,000 to $1.2 billion, and have included systems with: boilers, chillers, heat pumps, geothermal, solar PV, solar thermal, air handling, heat recovery, and high-pressure steam. She is also involved in MSP’s sustainability programs, master planning and building automation systems.
In April 2024, Brittany joined Kimley-Horn and Associates as a Practice Builder, developing a Mechanical and Electrical team for the firm in the Twin Cities. Her role is supporting clients, mentoring staff, and growing a business.
Britany is active in MnSPE where she has served on the Young Engineers and Professional Development Committees and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Brittany enjoys volunteering at her family’s church as well as her children’s school. Her most recent hobby involves home renovation projects.
