Pavements – Beyond the Surface, A tour and presentation hosted by AET with happy hour to follow

This event is a combination tour & presentation, with a social happy hour to follow, hosted by American Engineering Testing. The entire event will take place at the American Engineering Testing office in St. Paul.

About the program:

This presentation will explore the non-destructive pavement testing methods to evaluate roadways and how agencies are using them to stretch their budgets and provide a higher quality network-level pavement system to their communities.

About the presenters:

Jake Hiller has over 25 years’ of experience working in the pavement industry as an educator, researcher, practitioner, and mentor. He has been involved in national and international development of pavement and material evaluation, analysis, and assessment methods. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers as well as numerous research reports. He has also served as an advisor and/or committee member for 40+ M.S. and Ph.D. student theses in pavement, material, geotechnical, and structural engineering.

Jacob Michalowski is a registered professional engineer in Minnesota with over 11 years of experience in pavement and geotechnical engineering. As a Senior Engineer at American Engineering Testing, Inc., he has managed a variety of roadway projects, including reconstruction, overlays, and rehabilitation using innovative methods including falling weight deflectometer and ground penetrating radar testing. Jacob holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and is an active member of professional organizations such as ACEC/MN and the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association.

Mattia Zammarchi has over 11 years of experience in the civil engineering industry as a consultant, researcher, and mentor. He has been involved in a variety of engineering projects for pavement, geotechnical, and oil and gas applications. In the past 5 years, Mattia Zammarchi has worked as a Pavement Engineer at AET, contributing his expertise to cities, counties, states, and private contractors of the energy sector for multiple pavement projects. His primary focus is on pavement management and data analysis of non-destructive testing techniques such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Falling Weight Deflectometer. Mattia is committed to guiding and supporting the upcoming generation of engineers, guaranteeing a future for the field that is both sustainable and well-informed.
