2024 Young Engineers Leadership Series – An Introvert’s Tip for Advancing Your Career

The MnSPE Young Engineers Group invites you to join the 2024 Leadership Webinar Series. This 4-part series will be hosted via live webinar. Attend the live sessions, or if you can’t make a date, your registration also covers the recording. Presenter: Kathryn Sarnecki

Kathryn joined Saint Paul Port Authority in 2013 and has progressed from project manager, to VP, to SVP, and to CDO. In her role as Chief Development Officer, Kathryn is responsible for providing strategic direction to the organization, leading the Port’s real estate and development team and activities, and driving to serve the Port Authority’s mission (The Saint Paul Port Authority is an economic development agency that expands the City’s tax base, serves as a conduit to quality job opportunities, advances sustainable and equitable development and advocates for river commerce.)

Kathryn is a licensed professional civil engineer in Minnesota since 2009 (License number 47609) and has been a licensed real estate salesperson in MN since May 10, 2017, because a licensed real estate broker on September 8, 2022, and became the broker of record for Capitol City Properties d/b/a Port Consulting.

Kathryn oversees the Port Authorities Redevelopment projects such as the Heights (former Hillcrest Golf Course) redevelopment that hopes to remediate contamination, build a sense of community, bring 1,000 jobs and 1,000 housing units to Saint Paul all while advancing sustainability and creating community benefits agreements to help address equity. Kathryn is equally passionate about maintaining a thriving commercial harbor system that enables Saint Paul to be part of the global marketplace.

Kathryn brings to this role her decade of experience as an environmental engineering consultant and now over five years of real estate and development work. She holds a B.S. in civil engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.S. in environmental engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She serves on the Minnesota Freight Advisory Committee, as the chair for the Minnesota State MathCounts program, and as a board member for the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce. On a personal level, Kathryn is a proud wife and mother of two amazing children: Teddy, 7 and Madeline, 3.
