Make the most of your membership
MnSPE members, we invite you to get involved in your Minnesota PE society this coming year.
A list of committees are below. Most of them meet approximately once/month over zoom. A connected society is a strong one, and we welcome all to make the most of your membership in the coming year.
Committees are open to all members, as well as new members.
MnSPE 2022-2023 Committees
Young Engineers Group
Our young member group is the heart of FUN at MnSPE. This group plans events and activities that are important to those who are new to the engineering profession. The YMG also hosts FE and PE info sessions in collaboration with other engineering groups, a few times per year. Additionally, this is the place to connect for leadership development programs directly geared to those who are new to the profession.
Professional Development
This committee oversees MnSPE educational programs and planning – some of the most direct ways members get involved with, and engage with MnSPE each year. The committee helps set the annual calendar for educational seminars/webinars, and oversees FE/PE licensure affiliate programs, and our webinar library. We invite you to join us for a meeting and learn more.
Legislative and PE Licensure Advocacy
The legislative advocacy committee oversees MnSPE’s work with its
lobbying team, and monitors legislation that affects the practice of
engineering in Minnesota. This committee also manages our connections with the Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID, the state board that governs PE licensure.
MATHCOUNTS
The MATHCOUNTS committee and state board oversee the operation and strategic direction of the Minnesota State MATHCOUNTS program. The committee supports the 12 chapter competitions that take place around the stat each February, and plans the annual state competition held each March. The state board oversees the strategic direction and fiscal operations of Minnesota MATHCOUNTS.
Communications & Business Development
This group supports MnSPE’s collaboration with other organizations – strategic collaborations, sponsors, etc. and helps facilitate an annual calendar across all MnsPE groups, including committee events, board activities, social events, and our chapter happening. Members of this group will focus on engaging with local and state organizations and companies to build and grow MnSPE’s connections in the industry.
MnSPE Foundation Board
MnSPE has a separate 501c3 charity – the MnSPE Foundation, which was founded by members of MnSPE in 1962. The Foundation supports the future STEM workforce in Minnesota through its support of educational outreach programs, and scholarships for engineering students. Several board positions are open on the Foundation board, currently. Inquire through the form link below, and board members will follow up with an outline for board service opportunities.
Local Chapter Leadership
Our state is divided into nine geographic chapters. MnSPE members enjoy membership in a local chapter in their area, our statewide organization, and our national organization, NSPE, as part of one annual membership fee.
Each chapter is led by a volunteer leadership team of chapter members, with each chapter holding its own events of interest to local members. These activities most typically include continuing education programs, networking/social events, tours, a golf tournament, and an annual MATHCOUNTS competition.
